আবু রায়হান আল বিরুণী; তিনি ছিলেন সর্বপ্রথম ভূবিজ্ঞানী এবং নৃবিজ্ঞানী। ১০ম শতাব্দীতে তিনি গিয়ার হুইল সমৃদ্ধ যান্ত্রিক সৌর-চন্দ্র বর্ষপঞ্জিকা তৈরি করেন। ১৫শ শতাব্দীতে এই নকশার উপর ভিত্তি করে তাকী আল দীন যান্ত্রিক ঘড়ি আবিষ্কার করেন। কিবলা নির্ণয়ের প্রয়োজনীয়তা থেকেই কম্পাস আবিষ্কৃত হয় যা মুসলিম জ্যোতির্বিদ্যার আবিষ্কারলব্ধ জ্ঞানের উপর ভিত্তি করে তৈরী হয়েছিল।Abu Rayhan al-Biruni was the very first geologist and anthropologist. In the 10th century he made a mechanical lunisolar calendar with geared wheels. In the 15th century, based on this design, Taqi al-Din invented the mechanical clock. The compass was invented out of the need to determine the qiblah, and it was built on knowledge gained from the discoveries of Muslim astronomy.
